Plus Xnergy Wins RM71.76 million KLIA Aeropolis Integrated Solar PV and BESS SELCO Project

29 Jan 2026

  • Plus Xnergy will design, install, and commission a 36 MWp solar PV plant with a 45 MWh energy storage for Cenergi Aeropolis Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd to power KLIA
  • Project completion targeted for 1H2027

Petaling Jaya, 28 January 2026 – Plus Xnergy Services Sdn Bhd (Plus Xnergy), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of BM GreenTech Berhad (BM GreenTech) today signed two landmark contracts with Cenergi Aeropolis Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (CARE) for one of Malaysia’s largest self-consumption (SELCO) solar photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integrated projects located in KLIA Aeropolis.

Plus Xnergy won the RM71.76 million engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) as well as equipment and materials supply contracts following a competitive tender for the 36 megawatt-peak (MWp) ground-mounted solar PV power plant integrated with a 45 megawatt-hour (MWh) BESS. Targeted for completion in the first half of 2027, the renewable energy (RE) facility will support the demands of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)’s daily operations.

The CARE RE facility is one of Malaysia’s latest and largest SELCO projects that incorporates BESS. The initiative leads the way in sustainable infrastructure development and supports the nation’s long-term energy transition target. BESS alleviates intermittency challenges by enabling excess energy generated to be stored and discharged as required for a stable and uninterrupted output of energy.

Upon full commissioning, the CARE RE facility is expected to generate 46 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of clean electricity annually over a lifespan of 25 years and avoid 35,000 tCO2e per annum. This is equivalent to powering 13,400 homes annually or removing 8,000 internal combustion engine vehicles from the road.

BM GreenTech Executive Director and Plus Xnergy Group Chief Executive Officer Ko Chuan Zhen said, “Being entrusted to deliver clean energy solutions to power a strategic national asset like KLIA is both an honour and great responsibility. Beyond decarbonisation, this project demonstrates how RE-BESS integration can transform energy sourcing for critical infrastructure. The use of reliable, low-carbon power at scale for KLIA can serve as the blueprint for airports, ports and other strategic assets to be greener and more resilient. We have the experience and expertise to develop and integrate similar types of projects that underscore Malaysia’s net-zero ambitions and strengthen national security.”

Plus Xnergy has a track record of being involved in first-of-its-kind projects. In 2024, the company deployed Malaysia’s first sodium-sulfur BESS. The 1.45 MWh capacity system in Bukit Selambau, Kedah is Malaysia’s first utility-scale BESS connected to an operational LSS farm and enables an annual carbon avoidance of 126.5 tCO2e.

More recently in August 2025, Plus Xnergy was awarded a RM95 million contract by Nefin V Power Sdn Bhd to construct a 45 MWp solar PV plant under the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP) as part of the Energy Commission initiative.

CARE is a joint-venture between Cenergi SEA Berhad and KLIA Aeropolis Sdn. Bhd. (KLIA Aeropolis). Cenergi is a subsidiary of UEM Lestra Berhad, while KLIA Aeropolis is wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.
