28 Nov 2019

Recently, our co-founders Ko Chuan Zhen, Ryan Oh Zhi Kang and Poh Tyng Huei were announced as the winners of notable 2019 Ernst and Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year-Emerging Entrepreneur at the EY Awards Gala. This latest news was featured in a recent article by Focus Malaysia as stated below:

Dang Tai Luk (郑大禄先生), Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mynews Holdings Bhd was named the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) 2019 Malaysia at a gala event last night officiated by the Minister of Entrepreneur Development, YB Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof. Dang was picked from among the 17 Top Nominees vying for the title.

Dang, 59, will represent Malaysia and join more than 60 other country winners to compete for the coveted EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) award at the annual WEOY event in Monte Carlo next year. In addition to the top honour, EY also presented five other awards for entrepreneurial excellence to the following individuals:

• EY Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019 Malaysia – Ko Chuan Zhen (许传
真先生), Poh Tyng Huei (傅庭辉先生) and Ryan Oh (胡至康先生), Plus Solar
Systems Sdn Bhd
• EY Technology Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019 Malaysia – Ir Azhar Zainal
Abidin, ProEight Sdn Bhd
• EY Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019 Malaysia – See Wai Hun (史慧娴女
士), Juris Technologies Sdn Bhd
• EY Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019 Malaysia – Jenny Chuang (陈素波
女士), Sydney Cake House Sdn Bhd
• EY Master Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019 Malaysia – Dang Tai Luk (郑大禄先
生), Mynews Holdings Bhd

For the first time in the history of the EOY Malaysia awards, two women entrepreneurs were awarded the title of EY Woman Entrepreneur Of The Year Malaysia respectively.

Philip Rao, Partner, Ernst & Young Advisory Services Sdn. Bhd. and EOY Malaysia Programme Director said, “There are a lot of successful people in the world. But to build something truly remarkable, you can’t let anything stand in your way. Only a few leaders are part of this special group: the ones who never give up. Dang Tai Luk is one such leader. Through his vision, courage and determination, he has disrupted the status quo, broken away from the pack and ended up leading it. He has fuelled growth and prosperity by being unstoppable.

Dang is also a role model for purposeful entrepreneurship - serving communities, changing lives. For example, through the Mynews corporate social responsibility initiative “Allowances That Allow”, donation boxes are placed in Mynews outlets to collect loose change that is then channelled to underprivileged students.”

Commenting on the winners of the Woman Entrepreneur category, Rao said, “The panel of judges was unanimous in its decision that See Wai Hun and Jenny Chuang are true game-changers and deserve to be recognized respectively. Although having founded two different types of businesses – one a fintech that is pushing the boundaries of digitalization; the other a traditional bakery that has embraced technology in response to changing customer demands – both have, in their own ways, broken boundaries, challenged traditional mindsets and defined new norms. They are the personification of the unstoppables. In the process, they have driven growth and prosperity, inspired positive change and helped shape a better future for themselves and those around them.”

Acknowledging the importance of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs, Dato’ Abdul Rauf Rashid, Malaysia Managing Partner, Ernst & Young said, “The EOY programme is about recognizing and celebrating entrepreneurs and their determined purpose and pursuit of new ideas, new innovations, new solutions and new frontiers – key elements for development and growth.

We cannot emphasize enough the role and contribution of purposeful entrepreneurship, more so in this transformative age where the world faces relentless disruptions. We believe that when entrepreneurs and business work better, the world works better. This is very much at the heart of our EY purpose - which is to build a
better working world.”

In his address at the event, YB Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Minister of Entrepreneur Development, reaffirmed the Government’s support and encouragement of entrepreneurship.

He said, “I am pleased and inspired to see the entrepreneurial gems amongst us, scaling greater heights and exploring new frontiers as we continue to learn from their unique entrepreneurial journeys.

Malaysia’s growth and development will be continuously supported by a robust yet conclusive ecosystem empowering entrepreneurship development across industries. This is imperative in light of the objectives highlighted under Dasar Keusahawanan Nasional 2030 (DKN 2030) and Wawasan Kemakmuran Bersama 2030 (SPV2030).”

The five award recipients, as well as the overall country award recipient, were selected by an independent panel of judges guided by a set of global standard criteria. The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019 Malaysia panel of judges comprised the following individuals:
